Homestyle Italian – Gelbison’s Ristorante
We went to the Bondi for Sculpture by the Sea and after a couple of hours there we decided to eat dinner in Bondi. We decided to try a place called Gelbison’s as I remember a colleague had highly recommended this place.
Restaurant: Gelbison Pizzeria Ristorante Italiano
Where: 10 Lamrock Avenue, Bondi Beach, NSW, 2026
Gamberi Ai Sugo (Garlic Prawns in tomato sauce, onion, garlic and chili) – $18.50
Scaloppine All’Uccelleto (Veal in a white wine and butter sauce) – $20.90
Fusili Divelia – Crab meat pasta in napoletana Sauce – $27.90
Service: 8/10. It was a typical restaurant type, the restaurant was full but still the waitress were well manned from when we arrived to wait for a table until asking for a bill.
Rating: 8/10. The style is definitely home-style Italian food. It’s unlike any Italian or pizza/pasta place we’ve been before. The food is tasty, not salty and decently portioned. We would have given this a 9 but the food took a long time to come. We did not order any pizza, so we would have understood if we had to wait for that to bake in the oven. The dishes are probably overpriced, but since we were at Bondi Beach we could understand the price
Our only complaints was probably garlic prawns, the bread they supplied wasn’t fresh and just crappy bread and also the sauce was very similar to the same as the pasta we had so it got a little boring. And the pasta could’ve had a bit more crab-meat. Also their menu is huge, there is just too much to choose from. We questioned if the quality would be good for having so much but luckily what we chose was decent.
Will we go again? Yes, definitely not homestyle Italian food. I haven’t eaten much of this type before. Although we have in our list a couple of apparently good authentic Italian food.
