From Spanish to Italian

Someone promised to bring me to Bogeda ( today. Unfortunately it doesn’t take booking for 2 people. When we arrived at 8:15pm, we were told that the wait time was one and a half hour. I was already starving so we decided to walk to Crown Street to see what is good there.

Restaurant: Essenza Italian (

Where: 560 Crown Street, Surry Hills NSW 2010

Before we started, I ordered a 2010 Tormaresca Chardonay ($12). It has a fruity taste but doesn’t give much aroma.

Arancini, Mozzarella Rice Balls – $12

Hot with melting cheese. Size perfect for appetizer.

Duck leg

Prawn & Pesto Tagliatelle w Cherry tomatoes, Chili, Garlic & rocket – $26

Freshly made pasta cooked to al dente.

Service: 9/10 – The service is just really good here. They take care of you from start to finish. All the staff were well mannered, not rushing us to leave even though they were closing.

Food: 9/10 – The food is definitely good here. Authentic classic Italian food. The portion and taste of all the dishes above is just wow. The Arancini balls were the perfect size for an appetizer, crunchy on the outside, creamy and moist on the inside.  The duck leg was also cooked to perfection, not overdone or too raw and the salad on the side of it, is just delight in your mouth. And the pasta, is cooked perfectly, portion is good and the flavour in your mouth is just too good. You’ll have to try it to know what we are talking about.

We got some free Almond biscuits for dessert before we left and they were just a delight to the end of the meal.

Will we go back? Definitely! One of the best Italian restaurant’s we’ve been to.
